The Woman Behind the Light
Nyshell Watson is the founder and visionary of Socialight Society.

A storyteller, story keeper, and space maker, she created this community to celebrate Black women’s stories, amplify our voices, and make room for the books, conversations, and gatherings that help us remember who we are.
She’s also the voice of Come Celebrate With Me, a personal essay space on faith, Black womanhood, books, memory, celebration, and becoming.

Her work lives at the intersection of faith, feminism, and celebration, reminding us that our stories are sacred, strong, and worthy of being held with care.
About
Us.
Socialight Society is an online and pop-up bookshop celebrating Black women and Black literature.
What began as a small independent bookstore has grown into a movement rooted in community, creativity, and faith.
We curate books, gatherings, and collaborations that center women’s voices and honor the power of story.
Every shelf, every conversation, every connection is a celebration of who we are and the light we carry.
We believe in the sacred power of story—how it heals, anchors, and brings us back to ourselves. Through books and community, we make space for belonging, joy, and reflection.
Our work is guided by faith and sustained by the beauty of seeing one another fully.
